EMPOWERING POSSIBILITIES, A Real Collaboration:

Scoppechio Advertising in Louisville, KY approached us with an interesting challenge for their client, the Utility LG&E and KU. “Produce the classic spiritual This Little Light Of Mine where the first verse begins as an indie pop song and then explodes into a full-on gospel choir.”

The indie part was simple enough: Music by Martin Briley, vocals by Kari Steinert.

For the gospel choir Haus A&R Scotti Mann gathered Charlene Holloway, Cliff Starkey and engineer Benny Sims into a Reading, Pa studio. Three people, Scotti, Charlene and Cliff, around 1 microphone, recorded 4 times, each time with each singer standing in a different place, singing a different note. Additionally we placed 2 more microphones at the other end of the studio to pick up the ambience. The result was 12 unique voices with the big room ambience of the studio sounding way bigger than 3 people around 1 microphone.

Later in the process the client wanted to hear some vocal ad-libs. Charlene came back to the studio, driving 2 hours to sing for 5 minutes earning her the nickname THE 205.
